Правителството в Обединеното Кралство и Английската Църква са сформирали партньорство, по силата на което църковни сгради и друга собственост ще бъдат използвани за подобряване на достъпа до Интернет за местните общности, съобщава The Verge.

В изявление на правителството се казва, че това ще включва поставянето на безжични предаватели в църковните кули, както и инсталиране на сателитни чинии и оптични кабели в църковните сгради. Вече са налични 120 такива точки, а от правителството се надяват, че това ще доведе до още подобни случаи.

65% от англиканските църкви и 66% от енориите в Англия се намират в селски райони, което може да помогне за достигане на Интернет до по-недостъпни местности. Монтираната инфраструктура не може да промени характера и архитектурното и историческо значение на църковните сгради.

До 2020 всеки в Обединеното кралство ще има законно право на достъп до Интернет със скорост до поне 10 Mbps.
