Pew Research Center разпространи проучване за ролята на Twitter ботовете за разпространение на линкове от популярни сайтове, съобщава Engadget. Учените са анализирали около 1.2 милиона туита, публикувани от 140,545 акаунта между 27 юли и 11 септември 2017, споделели линкове към 2,315 популярни сайтове.
Според тях ботовете играят по-голяма роля при споделяне на линкове от истинските потребители. От всички споделени линкове, 66% са публикувани от ботове. 22% от туитовете с линкове към популярни сайтове са били публикувани от 500 от най-активните ботове. За сравнение 500-те най-активни реални потребители са отговорни за 6% от линковете към такива сайтове.
За анализът е използван инструмент наречен Botometer, който определя кои акаунти са на ботове. Той е разработка на учени в Университета на Индиана и университета на Южна Калифорния, определяйки вероятността даден акаунт да е бот на база фактори като възраст, честота на постове и последователи.
Интересно, е че ботовете споделят до около 90% от линковете със съдържание за възрастни, 76% от линковете със спортно съдържание и 66% от тези с новини и събития.
